Grief isn’t black and white. It’s polychromatic. It’s difficult to name. It’s hard to allow ourselves to fully feel.

I wrote “Possession of Pain” with my friend Susan Ruth a few years ago. I remember sitting on Susan’s porch for our first write together, and I felt the need to express my own grief I had been holding in. I’d had the title “Possession of Pain” rolling around in my brain for a couple of weeks, and in just a few hours it found its way out on that porch.

This song is a reminder to me that I'm allowed to feel what I need to feel so I can get a little closer to healing. Feeings are meant to be felt. The only way to get through them is to go through them. I hope you hear this song and are reminded of that, too.
